Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin recently made a name for himself in the vaping community by sending a formal letter to Dr. Califf, the commissioner of the FDA. As head of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Senator Johnson was concerned about the effects of the FDA’s new deeming regulation on both small businesses and national health. In his letter, Johnson posed the kind of hard questions that vapers have been wanting to ask.
After reading Senator Johnson’s admirable letter, SFATA reached out to him for an interview. Their engaging Q&A session contains numerous intriguing questions such as:
- “What prompted you to write a letter to the FDA?”
- “Have you received any answers from the FDA?”
- “Would you be open to modifying the deeming rule through a legislative path?”
- “Do you think that vaping has become a partisan issue?”
Throughout the interview, Johnson reiterated one critical point: He wants our voices to be heard! We must inform state representatives of our plight so that they may better understand the burden of these regulations. I encourage all of you to handwrite letters to your senators and representatives as soon as possible! We must take action as a community.
